Do I have to live within the Rocklin High School boundaries to play for the Rocklin Jr. Thunder?
No. While we encourage participants to play for the youth league that feeds into their high school, this is not a league requirement. However, even though we are not required to accept only Rocklin City residents, we encourage only Rocklin Residents to apply.

How old does my son or daughter have to be to participate?
Youth Football and Cheer is open to participants ages 6 – 14. Children that will be 6 years old on or before August 1st of the season year are eligible to tryout.

Are there weight requirements in order to participate in Football?
Yes, as set forth by the Sierra Youth Football & Cheer Association

What are the chances that my child will make the team at the age of 6?
Your child is evaluated based solely on ability not age. Most 6-year-old kids are not ready to play football and should not be forced to play. We encourage you to have your child participate in the first week of drills and discuss your child's ability with the coach

When do I turn in my medical release and pay the balance on my account?
Registration will close on July 17, 2010.  All required items and forms must be received by RJT no later than July 15, 2010 or your child will be ineligible to practice.  All fees must be paid in full at time of registration.  Early registration fee is $275.00.  Those registered  after June 1 will be accessed a $20.00 late charge.   Registration includes RJT Football Spirit Pack which consists of RJT Practice Jersey and Shorts.

What if my child decides that he/she does not want to play, do I get a refund?
Refunds may be requested at any time prior to final team selection on August 14, 2010.  After final team selection, no refunds will be given.  The amount refunded will be the registration fee less a $50.00 processing fee.  Equipment must be returned to RJT prior to submitting a request for a refund.

What if my child is released from the team?
If your child is released from their assigned team at any time, a refund will be given less a $ 50.00 administration fee.

When is the first day of tryouts?
July 19, 2010 is the first day of football tryouts. – Your child will not be able to tryout if you have not turned in all your paperwork, have a signed medical release, and are paid in full by July 12, 2010. –NO EXCEPTIONS

Is it OK if my child misses any of the first four weeks of practice?
No. The first two weeks of football and cheer practice are the most critical. The first week completes the mandatory conditioning required by the league. Until the 10 hours of conditioning are completed, a child cannot participate in any contact drills. The second week of practice is when the football players begin full contact practice.  This is when coaches begin to get a feel of where each child fits within their team. No later than the end of the third week, we must have all football teams reduced to 35 players (August 14th ) so missing even a single practice in the first three weeks can hurt a participant's chances of making the football team, especially if they are a first year player.

Can I choose what team my child plays on?
No.  Participants tryout for their own specific age and weight divisions based on experience and number of players trying out.  The Football Coordinator, along with the RJT Executive Board of Directors, retains the sole discretion concerning all player placement decisions.

What if I cannot afford to pay for my child's registration fee?
RJT has a limited number of scholarships available. Please email the with information on why you are requesting a scholarship. If the scholarship is approved, you will need to complete the checklist and registration forms (link to forms) as soon as possible. Scholarships are limited to one per family.

Do you need Coaches, Team Parents, or other Volunteers?
Rocklin Jr. Thunder is a completely volunteer program.  We are always looking for enthusiastic people to help support the league in any capacity that they can.  We need every family to participate in some manner.  Each family is required to volunteer a minimum of ten (10) hours during the season.  RJT does not collect a deposit to guarantee that a parent completes their required time and reserves the right to do so at a future date if we have a problem with a parent volunteering their time. If a parent signs up for parent hours and does not “show up” to work, their child will not be able to participate in the following weeks game.  If you are serving as a Board member, coach or Weight master position, your spouse is not required to volunteer their 10 hours. Some of the available volunteer positions are PAR monitor, Chain gang, game announcer, gate, snack bar, booster, team parent, game setup or take down, serving on committees, assisting cheer in transporting cheer mats or assisting in giving out football equipment.

Do I need to fund-raise?
Yes. RJT registration fees cover approximately 70% of the costs to run this organization.  Each child will be expected to sell four (4) $10 discount cards.

When will I know about schedules for practice and games?
The first day of practice will be July 19, 2010. Practices are no more than 2 1/2 hours long, no more than ten hours a week and almost always in the evenings. The first week of tryouts will be Monday – Friday, 6:00Pm – 8:00PM. We try to schedule all our games on Saturdays. It is the philosophy of the Rocklin Jr. Thunder that we do not play on Sundays. However, because our game schedule is based upon the availability of the high school field, we may have to play on a Sunday.

What if my child misses a practice?
Because football is a full contact sport and cheer incorporates stunts into their routines, it is a safety issue for both the player and the team when a child misses practice. In the event a participant cannot be at practice, it is mandatory that the head coach be notified prior to practice. The following penalties apply for an unexcused absent:
  • Missing one practice may prohibit the participant from starting the next game.
  • A second missed practice the same week may disqualify that child from playing in that week’s game.
  • Children not participating in a game for these reasons must attend the game but will not dress.
Can I watch my child practice?
The practice field is reserved for coaches, participants and instructors only. It is asked that parents, friends and siblings remain off the practice field at all times. Practice time is limited, so it is important that coaches have the opportunity to make the best use of the time allotted. If you must speak to a coach, please contact them before or after practice.  Siblings should not be left at the field without adult supervision and RJT will not assume responsibility for their safety.  Also, although words of encouragement during practice by parents are always welcome, words of criticism are strictly forbidden and disruptive.  RJT retains the exclusive right to request the removal of disruptive parents or visitors.

How Is Playing Time Calculated?
The Sierra Youth Football and Cheer League (SYFC) requires that all players receive ten (10) plays per game.  For each game, two parents will be responsible to document a team’s par requirement.  If a team fails to meet their par requirement, they forfeit the game.  Beyond the par requirement, playing time is at the sole discretion of the coaching staff, who will determine a player’s playing time based on, but not limited to, the following multiple factors: skill, discipline, practice drills, leadership, conditioning and practice attendance.

Can I bring my family pets? No
Family pets, leashed or not, are prohibited at all practices and games.  This is a safety issue (and High School policy) and we ask for your cooperation.

What if I have a suggestion or complaint?
All suggestions or complaints must be submitted in writing to the Board of Directors.  A written response will be forwarded after the next regular board meeting. The address for submission is:
2351 Sunset Blvd  Suite 170-275
Rocklin, CA 95677
